 Join the reserve team on National Fungus Day on a guided walk around The Lodge nature reserve and learn about the weird and wonderful lives of fungi.

 With more than 700 species recorded at The Lodge, we will look at ways to identify fungi and tips on how to photograph them but be aware that this is not a photography workshop. This guided walk is designed for adults and teens with a general interest in fungi and does not focus on what is edible or poisonous for potential foragers.

  It is not a foraging walk, and fungi will not be collected for consumption.

Calling all the young detectives out there for a hunt for fabulous fungi this half-term at The Lodge with our knowledgeable volunteers.

With over 700 species of fungi recorded at The Lodge, you are bound to find the deadly, the slimy and the downright weird on your visit!   Fungi come in all shapes and sizes, so our well-informed volunteers will be on hand to point out some of the more elusive species.  

Past highlights have been the distinctive red and white Fly Agaric, the club-shaped and dark Earth Tongue and many more.

Join us for an enchanting evening as we explore The Lodge on a Dusk Walk.

As the sun begins to set, experience The Lodge in a whole new light on this guided evening walk through the reserve. Dusk is one of the best times to encounter some of nocturnal creatures.

If we're very lucky, we may encounter bats, owls, badgers and more. We will use bat detectors and UV torches to find what glows at night.

Whether you're a keen wildlife enthusiast or simply looking to enjoy a peaceful evening in nature, this relaxed guided walk offers a unique opportunity to experience the magic of the reserve after hours.

Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear and bring a torch.

Debbie Land returns, this time to talk about Stalin’s Female Pilots, known as the ‘Night Witches’.
