Walk with the Warden RSPB Heathland
Venue: RSPB, The Lodge, Potton Road, Sandy SG19 2DL
Time: Saturday 9 August 10.00 am-11.00 am
Celebrate our 20th year of restoring the heathland at The Lodge with our Warden Sonya, who will give visitors an exclusive close-up look at the work carried out here at The Lodge with a focus on our heathland.
Heathland is a key habitat at The Lodge, with it being the largest in Bedfordshire. It is home to breeding hobbies, stonechats, common lizards, green tiger beetles and other invertebrates of bare, sandy soil. We are also managing pools for reintroduced natterjack toads by maintaining water levels and removing encroaching trees, making us one of the best inland sites for natterjack toads.
This will be a wonderful opportunity to gain more insight into what we do at The Lodge and the RSPB as a wider organisation. A perfect outing for those who are involved in habitat management, as well as those who simply have an interest. The walk will be on uneven paths.
Meet on the picnic lawn outside the Shop.
